Welcome to Shibayama Lab.

The Shibayama laboratory was founded in Sept. 1, 2000. We explore the world of intelligent soft materials with the eyes of neutrons and photons.

Polymers, emulsions, and liquid crystals are sometimes called "softmatter" or "complex fluids" of which physics has been explosively advanced in recent years. We conduct structural analysis and investigation of the dynamics of these materials in terms of neutron scattering and laser light scattering techniques. Particularly, focus is placed on phase separation, phase transition, critical phenomena, percolation problem of gels and micelles. The aim is to construct and systematize the physics of connectivity-correlated systems of macromolecular systems. The current topics are (1) sol-gel transition of polymer gels, percolation transition of thermoreversible gels, (3) inhomogeneities and nonergodicity of gels, (4) phase transition of oil/water emulsion.
